What brought Vanilla Ninja back together?

At the end of 2018, a former Vanilla Ninja producer David Brandes contacted Lenna, one of the original band members, and came forward with an initial plan for the ninja-girls’ reunion.
After the producer had come up with the plan, Lenna and Piret flew to Germany together to discuss the matter and an agreement was quickly reached. We sang the first demos and decided to go on with it. – said Piret in an interview with Eesti Päevaleht.

Minu Unistuste Päev’s 10th anniversary

On the occasion of their 10th anniversary, the Minu Unistuste Päev charity foundation opened a first-of-a-kind in Estonia photo exhibition showing seriously and chronically ill children. The exhibition is held in the open areas of Tallinn’s Fotografiska’s 1st floor. Lenna, Minu Unistuste Päev’s patron, performed during the event that took place on July 8th.
Minu Unistuste Päev’s touring exhibition has an important meaning for the foundation. Out of thousands of photographs taken during the last 10 years, only 12 got chosen for the exposition. Every picture tells a story of a child and Minu Unistuste Päev with joy, brightness, sadness and pain going hand in hand. Every story is thought-provoking and profound.
The charity foundation Minu Unistuste Päev fulfils the wishes of seriously and chronically ill children in order to support their and their parents’ mental health and plays an important part in the treatment process as a whole. An average of 100 dream events are organized every year, half of which are personal dream days and the second half – various group events. The foundation gathers over 100 volunteers from all over Estonia.

No Regrets

Vanilla Ninja shared wonderful news on their social media – the new single is coming sooner than expected! “No Regrets” will be released on 16.07.2021. The song described as “giving a positive impression with wonderful Irish-folk elements” is sung mostly by Lenna. The accompanying music video will have its premiere on YouTube on the same day.

Vanilla Ninja for Kroonika

I like the fact that I won’t have to tell my child all the fun stories when I’m in the rocking chair, but instead she can now become a part of that story herself, – says Piret Järvis-Milder, who now, 15 years later, is rocking again as a part of Vanilla Ninja.

Last year, Vanilla Ninja announced they were coming back after a 15-year long pause. „We’ve been working on some new music together with David Brandes and a special surprise is that Triinu has rejoined the band.” wrote Piret in one of her social media posts. Vanilla Ninja’s new single „Gotta Get It Right”, recorded with their former manager David Brandes, was released just before Midsummer.

Vanilla Ninja was formed in 2002. It then consisted of Lenna Kuurmaa (35), Katrin Siska (37), Piret Järvis-Milder (37) and Maarja Kivi (35). Maarja left the band in 2004 due to pregnancy. Maarja’s place in Vanilla Ninja was filled by Triinu Kivilaan (32) from Viljandi. The comeback’s now being carried out by the band embodied by Lenna, Katrin, Piret and Triinu.

Piret says that their first appearance with the new material will take place at the beginning of August on German TV. However, it’s too early to state when the first full-length concert will happen.

We’ll see what else is corona planning to do with our lives. If we still have to dance to its tune before people are able to sing and dance to ours. But you can’t carry on without the concerts. We’re hoping that next summer, at the latest, we’ll be able to bring a live performance of our biggest hits to the audience in Estonia. – says Piret. According to her, coronavirus strongly affected their plans. In normal circumstances, we would’ve all recorded the album together in Germany but instead we had to do it remotely from various countries. It was really quite difficult because we were lacking live feedback and sometimes it led to the double amount of work – when it turned out that the recording made in Estonia still wasn’t right. Additionally, I felt we were really missing the possibility to sit in one place together, see each other and discuss the issues.

Lenna got married!

Lauri Mäesepp’s brother Taavi shared a special picture on his Instagram account yesterday. The description delivers joyful news – during the weekend Lenna Kuurmaa said an eternal “yes” to her fiancé.
In the Instagram stories of the wedding guests, you can see the newlyweds dancing, with the smallest member of their family in Lenna’s arms. Lenna, in a beautiful wedding dress, did not shy away from singing at her own wedding. One of the songs, for example, was a calmer version of “Club Kung-Fu”. It seems that the bride’s feet soon got tired, as she threw beautiful white high-heels away and performed barefoot. Of course, she also sang in the beautiful Seto dialect. Among others, also Piret Järvis-Milder accompanied Lenna on stage. Lauri made his appearance as well.

“Gotta Get It Right” in Estonian media

Yesterday, Estonian media started posting information about Vanilla Ninja’s long-awaited comeback single “Gotta Get It Right”. One of the main Estonian broadcasters, ERR, shared the following news.

Estonian girl band Vanilla Ninja have released a new song “Gotta Get It Right” after a 13-year break.
Last November, Vanilla Ninja announced there were plans to reunite after more than a decade and release new music. “Gotta Get It Right” is released in collaboration with a German music producer and the author of Vanilla Ninja’s two previous international albums, David Brandes.

“I haven’t been so excited and anxious about something for a long time, now that Vanilla Ninja is releasing new music,” band member Lenna Kuurmaa said. “It feels like I’m 17 again and it’s the beginning of the band.”

“Gotta Get It Right” will definitely offer our former listeners a lot of recognition,” Piret Järvis-Milder, band member, added. “I believe those who liked our “Tough Enough” will also love the new song. It has exactly the same 80s synth-rock vibes.”

A video of the song, filmed in early May in Berlin with German director Oliver Sommer, will premiere on Youtube on Friday night.

Lenna’s son’s name revealed

Singer Lenna Kuurmaa gave birth to her third child in November – her daughters, Ami and Matilda, got a little brother. Recently, in her radio show “Manna ja Lenna”, she also revealed the boy’s name. The son of the singer and her fiancé, Lauri Mäesepp, was named Kusti!
During the show, the woman also admitted that it had been such a long time since her previous pregnancy that she had to remind herself once again how to change diapers and hold the baby.
Lenna confirmed the pregnancy last August in conversation with Õhtuleht.
