Vanilla Ninja released the third single this summer, “The Reason Is You” from their upcoming album “Encore”.
We are so pleased that “The Reason Is You” is reaching the listeners today, on Estonia’s Independence Restoration Day, because the video to this song is our first one for the international market that was shot in Estonia. – said the band member, Piret Järvis-Milder.
Throughout our career, we have filmed in Iceland, South Africa, Mallorca and many times in Germany, but not yet in Estonia. So we were really glad to finally create a visual for our music at home, as we had dreamed about it for so long.
The video for “The Reason Is You” was shot in Kultuurikatel’s boiler room and although it was directed by Oliver Sommer from Germany, the film crew consisted mostly of Estonians. The video’s cinematographer was Mart Vares, the styling was taken care of by Karolin Kuusik, make-up was done by Kaia Triisa and Mammu, and you can see Borka behind the drums.
“The Reason Is You” was the first song from the new material to be recorded by Vanilla Ninja, who had announced their comeback at the end of last year. “The Reason Is You” was the first demo that producer David Brandes sent to us when we started discussing the reunion. – said the band’s vocalist, Lenna Kuurmaa. If the song was not super convincing, we would not be here today.
“The Reason Is You” is a continuation to Vanilla Ninja’s first comeback song, “Gotta Get It Right”, released in June, and to the folk ballad “No Regrets” that followed. The whole album, filled with new music, is going to be released on October 8th, being the Estonian ensemble’s first full-length record in 15 years.
Last November, Vanilla Ninja announced their plans to reunite after over 10 years and release a new album, filled with new music. Vanilla Ninja are one of the most internationally successful Estonian bands of all time. Their album “Traces of Sadness”, published in 2004, reached 3rd place in Germany’s official albums sale chart and received platinum status not only in Germany but also in Austria and Switzerland. The band’s third record, “Blue Tattoo”, also reached high sales rates, going gold and platinum in many European countries. The band performed all over the world, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Japan, Iraq, Kuwait, etc.
Vanilla Ninja came together in 2002 in Tallinn, with the ensemble then consisting of Lenna Kuurmaa, Piret Järvis-Milder, Katrin Siska and Maarja Kivi. The latter one left the band in 2004 and Triinu Kivilaan from Viljandi joined Vanilla Ninja in exchange. The comeback is carried out by Lenna, Piret, Katrin and Triinu.
